Many of the ghost towns were old mining communities that were abandoned due to contamination, natural disasters, or economic factors directly related to mining operations.

However, one town in Colorado stands out among the rest as while it appears to be abandoned, it still has a functioning post office.

Wild Horse Colorado is Not Quite a Ghost Town

Located on the state's eastern plains just east of Colorado Springs, Wild Horse was once a fully-functioning town with origins dating back to the mid-1800s.

The town was a railroad hub and a cavalry post but was nearly destroyed by a massive fire in the early 1900s.

Following the fire, Wild Horse was partially rebuilt but never quite recovered and the majority of the homes and businesses have since been abandoned.

Interestingly, among all of the abandoned buildings in Wild Horse sits a lone post office that is still in operation today. It also appears that at least one household is still occupied, likely by an employee of the post office.
