Of course, every Coloradan knows about food items like the Denver Omelet, Rocky Mountain Oysters, Palisade Peaches, and plenty of others, but the state's capital of Denver is also home to a special style of hot dog unique to the city.
What is Denver Colorado's Signature Hot Dog?
Officially named The Denver Dog, this particular concoction takes the classic hot dog and bun combo and adds a few special ingredients. The primary addition is green chile, a favorite topping in much of the state, especially Pueblo where the annual Chile and Frijoles Festival takes place.
Once the hot dog is smothered in the green chile sauce, it is then garnished with chopped red onions, chopped fresh jalapenos, and topped with a dollop of sour cream.
Similar to the way that Beau Jo's is responsible for Colorado-style pizza, the Denver Dog is one of many creations by Applegate Natural and Organic Meat.
This particular company boasts simple, humanely-raised, antibiotic-free meats that can be found at most major grocery chains.
Applegate is also responsible for recipes for numerous other region-specific hot dog concoctions and offers detailed instructions on how to make them yourself on the company's official website free of charge.
While not nearly as popular as, say, the Chicago Dog, the Denver Dog certainly fits the city of Denver as well as the entire Centennial State.
