Colorado State Patrol has reported that a massive amount of seized marijuana was stolen by thieves that, as of this writing, have yet to be identified or caught. According to CSP, the marijuana was being stored in an evidence container in Arapahoe County and was seized during a highway investigation.

The marijuana was scheduled to be destroyed, but evidence shows that the thieves stole the evidence, totalling a whopping 600 pounds in weight, earlier this month on April 5.

Marijuana has been associated with the Centennial State for quite a few years, and while an exorbitant amount of weed is highly illegal, the story still raises some questions.

Why Was the Marijuana Set to Be Destroyed in Colorado?

As mentioned above, the 600 pounds of seized marijuana was scheduled to be destroyed. While likely a part of protocol, after all, the marijuana was seized during a major criminal bust, one has to wonder if there might be a better means to repurpose this type of evidence.

How Vulnerable Was the Colorado Evidence Container?

There are differing accounts as to when the criminals first broke into the evidence container and while it has been reported that the evidence was stolen on April 5, other reports have said that the thieves first broke in on April 1.

Luckily, it has also been reported that CSP has ramped up security measures since the break-in.

Who Would Steal 600 Pounds of Marijuana in Colorado?

Finally, one must wonder who would steal 600 pounds of marijuana? If big-time criminals were behind the theft, it seems that another bust of the same weed could be pretty likely, especially after further investigating the crime.

One could also assume that the theft was committed by small-time criminals or even overly ambitious teenagers who didn't quite think their plan through. After all, 600 pounds of anything is difficult to manage, much less sell in a state where, with exceptions of massive quantities, it's legal.
