Sapphire Hunting is a Hobby Enjoyed by Many in Colorado

It's no secret that one of the biggest draws for transplants to decide to move to Colorado is the state's unmatched natural beauty.

For fans of the outdoors who enjoy hiking, camping, rafting, and innumerable other activities in nature, Colorado's wilderness is nothing short of a mecca.

While hiking remains one of the most popular outdoor activities in the state, some take it a step further and pay especially close attention to the ground below for things like arrowheads, fossils, and various gemstones.

Believe it or not, one activity enjoyed by many across the state of Colorado is sapphire hunting and there are a few spots across the state in which this particular hobby is known to produce the best results.

Where Are the Best Places to Go Sapphire Hunting in Colorado?

According to a website called RockChaser.com, there are a handful of places in Colorado that are known to be hot spots for sapphire hunters.

These places include an old mine just north of Salida called Calumet Mine, Chalk Creek, which is near Mount Princeton, Housel Gulch in Moffat County, Yule Creek located near the town of Marble, as well as the high elevation of the Continental Divide.

Old, abandoned mines are also known to be places in which sapphires have historically been discovered, but it must be known that extreme caution should be exercised for safety and legal reasons around these types of sites.
