How Much Money Do Coloradans Spend on Lottery Tickets Each Year?
According to The Motley Fool, Coloradans spend about $165 per capita on lottery tickets each year. The most recent data from the United States Census Bureau shows that a whopping $97.8 billion was spent on lottery tickets in 2022 nationwide, with around 0.8% of that figure being attributed to sales in Colorado.
While $165 per capita amounts to quite a bit of money, the U.S. Census Bureau found that in Massachusetts, that number increased to a staggering $1,024.91 per capita, the highest in the country. It should also be noted that this figure is nearly double the amount found in Georgia, the state that spends the second-most amount of money on lottery tickets, as the same data determined that number to be $526.98 per capita.
While Massachusetts was found to be the state that spent the most money per capita on the lottery, it was New York that brought in the most actual money. According to Statista, data from 2023 shows roughly $10.5 billion in lottery sales attributed to New York in a single year.
