Recently, a study was published that listed all of the most commonly-used words in various states when it comes to the names of locations and the word found most in Colorado's names will likely not come as much of a surprise.

Colorado Location Names Use "Springs" More than Any Other Word

The word found in the names of Colorado locations more than any other is the word "springs." This distinction is shared by a couple of other states, including Arkansas and Mississippi, meaning no other state that borders Colorado shares this most common word.

In total, Colorado is home to nine cities and towns that contain the word, which include Colorado Springs, Poncha Springs, Glenwood Springs, Olney Springs, Idaho Springs, Pagosa Springs, Eldorado Springs, Hot Sulfur Springs, and Manitou Springs.

In contrast, the neighboring states of Utah, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Kansas use "city" the most, while Wyoming is the only state that uses "river" more than any other word.

To the south of Colorado, the state of New Mexico has the word "Santa" as the most common in location names, the only state in the nation with that particular distinction, and Arizona holds the title of being the only state in the country to use the word "valley" in its location names more than any other.
