New Study Finds Why Colorado is So Great for Camping
Colorado has some of the best natural landscapes the entire country has to offer, making it an absolutely perfect destination for outdoors activities.
Sure, you can hit the slopes by going skiing, head out to a lake or river to go fishing, or just take a hike, but there’s something else a lot of people love doing out here in the beautiful wilderness: camping.
Camping is by far one of Colorado’s favorite pastimes, and with some insane mountain views, it’s easy to see why.
We’re also home to the most ‘in-demand’ campground in the country, which is Aspenglen Campground in Estes Park. It’s actually the hardest campground to book, so you need to do your due diligence if you want to stay there.
With all of this being said, it should come as no surprise that Colorado ranks highly as one of the best states to camp, and thanks to insuremytrip, we know exactly why.
Colorado Ranks as the 7th Best State for Camping
In their study, insuremytrip looked at multiple different factors to decide which states are the best in the country for camping.
These include National Parks per 1,000 square miles, campsite quality, rainfall, species diversity, and even fuel prices.
They also take a look at crime and accident statistics in these parks to see which campsites are the safest.
They then give each state a final score.
When taking everything into account, Colorado ranked as the 7th best state for camping in the country, with a final score of 6.52.
The category that Colorado did the best in was for most convenient states for camping, which includes campsite quality, rainfall, fuel prices, and internet access.
With all of these taken into account, Colorado ranks as the 6th most convenient place to camp.
What States Rank Higher and Lower?
According to insuremytrip, the best state in the country for camping is actually Rhode Island, which had a final score of 7.09.
Rhode Island places high in all three categories they looked at, including safety, convenience, and woodland camping spots.
Interestingly, while Colorado placed all the way up at the top of the list, its neighbor, Wyoming, placed at the bottom with a score of 3.81.
Much of that lower score has to do with the state’s poor safety rating.
