Colorado's Oldest Operating Drive-In Theater

The Star Drive-In Theatre in Montrose recently opened for its 75th season in Western Colorado. While this wasn't the first movie theatre to open under the stars in the Centennial State, the Star Drive-In has become the oldest, continuously running outdoor theatre still in operation today.

George and Elizabeth DeVries opened the theatre in 1950. Today, their daughter Pamela DeVries Friend operates the Star Theatre. They still use the cool window speakers we remember from back in the day, and serve all the essential movie snacks at the concession stand.

What's Playing This Weekend In Montrose?

The Star Drive-In still shows a double feature most nights during the summer. This weekend (May 17th, 18th, 19th), guests can check out the brand-new feature Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes followed by Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Movies begin just after dusk. The start time will change as we move through the summer. This weekend you can expect the action to start around 8:15 PM.

The Star Drive-In in Montrose is one of the most affordable drive-ins anywhere as they do not change admission for guests ages 11 and under. Tickets for guests 12 and up cost $9. Seniors 60 and over pay $7. Check out the Star Drive-In website for information on additional discounts.
