Interested in one of Grand Junction's free tree seedlings this year? Since the window for home delivery has passed, head to Southwest Arbor Fest at Lincoln Park on April 25, where seedlings will be available starting at 9 a.m. until they're gone. Be sure to arrive early. Each household can claim up to two trees, and they go very quickly.

What Kind of Trees Are Being Given Away?

The Southwest Arbor Day Festival has become one of the largest events on Colorado's Western Slope each April. The tree giveaway has become very popular over the years because the city generously gives away trees tough enough to handle Grand Junction's arid climate. Act fast, and you can select from drought-tolerant species like pinyon, alligator juniper, Texas red oak, and yellowhorn trees, all known to handle heat and limited water.
