Have you or your family and friends in Colorado had the stomach bug, during the end of 2024? It turns out, we are not alone, after all.

I know I, myself, was down with that nasty, nasty, "stomach bug" in early December; 24 hours of staying close to the bathroom. At first I thought it was something I ate; then I realized I had a fever.

Colorado Sees Surge in Norovirus Cases

It goes without saying, that If you haven't had this bug, you should consider yourself fortunate, as many of us in Colorado have. If anything, you might want to make sure that you know how to not get it.

FOX31 has the story on how the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has seen a huge increase in Norovirus cases, as like much of the country.

Normally during the last quarter of the year, Colorado sees around 5-114 cases; in 2024, that timeframe saw almost 160.

When you consider many don't seek out medical help with norovirus, the number of Coloradans that did suffer is probably a lot more.

In my situation, I made a nice spaghetti dinner with Italian sausage; a few hours later, as I was in bed, I felt sick to my stomach. "Could it have been that fresh sausage?" It didn't seem likely, but was it the only thing I could think of, as my "both ends" nightmare was underway.

How to Avoid Getting the Norovirus That's Going Around Colorado

Plain and simple, the best way to avoid being stuck in or near your bathroom with this "Stomach bug" is to wash your hands. Hand sanitizers don't kill norovirus (we can put a man on the moon, but we can't get hand sanitizers to kill this?) so wash thoroughly with soap and warm water, especially after using the restroom.
