There’s a New Way to Play Colorado Lottery Games
For folks in Colorado that enjoy trying their luck at lottery games, it's gotten a lot easier. Why go into a gas station or the grocery store, with lines and hassling the attendants, when you can do it online?
As of late 2024, Colorado is one of only eight states in the nation letting us get national lottery drawing tickets and select Colorado scratcher tickets online, or with an app. Will this see an increase in lottery sales?
Does it feel "sketchy" to you?
Jackpot.com Comes to Colorado
There are thousands of people who use their smartphones to place wagers with online gambling sites like FanDuel and BetMGM, so why wouldn't buying lottery tickets online also become popular?
According to CPR, Jackpot.com launched in Colorado in November of 2024. I was intrigued, so I signed up. I'm a gambling man, by nature: I did get into radio, right? That as was big gamble.
How Does Jackpot.com Work?
- Deposit money into your account.
- Select which game/ticket you'd like.
- The cost of the ticket comes out of your account.
- Jackpot.com purchases that order and notifies you of the results.
- If you win, the money is deposited into your account, unless it's a large amount where you need to show up in person.
How Does Jackpot.com Make Money?
They make their cash with a "service fee" for depositing funds into your account. The more you deposit, the bigger the fee is.
- $10 - $2 fee.
- $20 - $4 fee.
- $50 - $10 fee.
- $100 - $20 fee.
I deposited $10 ($12) and bought a $10 scratcher. I got an email verifying the purchase, where it also said that they'd notify me when it was ready. An hour later, I was still waiting.
I can see where those who have a hard time getting around but still want to play these games will take advantage, but those "service fee" will be a big deterrent to many, as well.
