Love them or hate them, roundabouts appear to be ever-growing in popularity when it comes to city planning around Colorado. Towns like Windsor, Greeley, and Johnstown have been implementing the installation of these intersections more and more every year.

Roundabouts Are Part of Daily Life for Many Drivers

Normally, I take the backroads to work daily. Even on the backroads from Johnstown to Windsor, I travel through four roundabouts from start to finish.  Now, when you venture into a city like Loveland, you are going to encounter even more of these intersections.

The roundabout intersection is said to be far superior to the conventional intersection as it tends to be safer for drivers, as it eliminates the possibility of a T-bone crash or head-on collision. One of the other benefits of a roundabout intersection is that it is more efficient for traffic flow. No one really wants to sit at an intersection for an extended period of time to wait at a four-way stop sign or a traffic light that happens to have no traffic.

Report Shows Loveland Ranks Third in the USA

According to Pantheos, Loveland ranks third for the most roundabout intersections per city in the United States, with a total of 47 roundabout intersections. Another Colorado city has even more and ranks second on the list.

Colorado Springs has 14 more roundabouts than Loveland, at 61. However, Colorado Springs is five-and-a-half times the size of Loveland, meaning there are far fewer roundabouts per square mile.

Carmel, Indiana, Tops the List

The city with the most roundabouts in the nation is Carmel, Indiana. The roundabout capital of the United States has a whopping 155 roundabouts. With a population of approximately 103,000 residents, this means that there is one roundabout per 664 residents.
